Ever since I saw Emily’s first Instagram post of her new Pioneer Square apartment back in January, I’ve been hounding her about doing a house tour: “Are you ready yet? I mean, no pressure!” Then quietly, “But, are you ready yet?” It was sparse at that point—she’d just moved in, after all, but I was already loving what I was seeing: A mirrored side table, a woven foot stool, a faux fur pillow on the couch. White brick walls inside contrast with the brick buildings outside her window, which are characteristic of this historic neighborhood on the south end of downtown Seattle.
Emily’s style is basically pure eye candy. And I mean that sort of literally! As the Director of Marketing and Community Relations for Molly Moon’s—the place to hit up for to-die-for ice cream in Seattle—she’s taken inspiration from her day job by adding details to her home. You’ll find a variety of sprinkles in mason jars on her bar cart (presumably to toss on the scoops of “work” she brings home from time to time), pop art-like oversized soft serve ice cream cones sitting on a shelf above her couch, and a frame perched on top of her fridge declaring, “Ice Cream Makes You Happy.” Indeed. And so do all the colorful details in Emily’s home.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Fun, feminine, colorful.
Inspiration: Ban.do, Sugar & Cloth, Studio DIY, Oh Joy, Molly Moon’s, anything with pops of bright color, confetti, balloons, sprinkles!
Favorite Element: Bar cart in my cactus-printed wallpaper corner filled with rosè and sprinkles. Or the hanging light fixtures I had installed.
Biggest Challenge: Not having enough closet space!
What Friends Say: They want help decorating. It’s been exciting making this apartment come to life with my style; I’ve never thought of myself as someone who could decorate an interior space, but this has been so much fun.
Also, it’s great having two couches so all my friends can sit around and watch the “Bachelorette” together.
Biggest Embarrassment: Trying to hang up a floating shelf recently; the whole thing fell off the wall while I was at work and all of my tea cups shattered!
Proudest DIY: My accent wallpaper. The size was awkward, so I had to carefully piece together two half rolls lined up perfectly.
Biggest Indulgence: My plants. This has been my first time owning plants, and now I can’t stop.
Best Advice: To declutter and try to be more minimalist. I don’t have a ton of space, so I place things that don’t need to be out in boxes and stack them in the upper crawl space. It feels so good having a light, airy, clean apartment.
