“I love nothing more than welcoming people into my place” (Image credit: Submitted by Gillie )

Name: Gillie
Location: Prospect Park South — Brooklyn, New York

When I first viewed my one bedroom close to the park, it was in total shambles. Under rennovation for the first time in (I assume) years, the previously lime green walls were half painted, the wood floors were scuffed beyond recognition, and then kitchen was a vacant construction area. But I fell in love with the size and airiness of the apartment and signed on it immediately, entrusting that everything would come together in the end.

Since moving in in June, I have loved making my first “real adult place” (a.k.a. roommate-free space I could personalize completely) into a home. Luckily, my sight-unseen kitchen came out beautifully and the floors were sanded and waxed to their former glory before I moved in.

I’m a total hoarder of books, prints, and sentimental knicknacks, all of which I finally have room to display in a cozy but not cramped way. I love nothing more than welcoming people into my place—most of whom marvel at the size of it or ask me to help decorate their own spaces—and love to host meals and get-togethers now that I have plenty of space to do so!

Thanks, Gillie!
