Name: Abby Greenawalt
Location: Capitol Hill, Washington, DC

Eight years ago I stumbled upon a quirky little apartment in the heart of Capitol Hill, located about two and half blocks from the Capitol (not kidding). It’s about 750 square feet with a very sweet balcony.

Perfecting the art of tiny apartment living is a continuous work in progress. If something comes in, something has to go out. Naturally I’m drawn to form over function, but as a freelance photographer my space has to promote some function, or no work will get done.

The apartment is a combination of new + old, and is very much a labor of love. At the foot of the bed is a curtain from my great grandmother’s house. On top of the shelves is an old glass buoy. The gold frames are from a local painter.

The space is also full of DIY. The stairs and hallway have been stripped of the carpet, stained, and painted. Not as easy as it looks!

In the warmer months, the balcony is by far the best part! For entertainment purposes, however, the large kitchen window allows for fantastic people watching.

Thanks, Abby!
