Estate sales, yard sales, and antique shops were regular weekend destinations for my brother and me as kids. My parents, always on the hunt for period-appropriate decor for our Staten Island 19th-century house, made sure of it. Since then, I’ve had a love for home design and…read more

My small apartment doesn’t do well with overpowering fragrances, so I’m always looking for new diffusers and aromas that will leave it smelling fresh. I had almost given up the search until I looked into the Aera x Apartment Therapy Mini Diffuser and Inspired Space Collection. With a sleek design and subtlety of scents, it checked all the boxes and came with tons of editor praise (it was even a winner of Apartment Therapy’s 2024 Small/Cool Design Award).

Maxwell Ryan, founder and CEO of Apartment Therapy, adds that it’s meant to give the “finishing touch” to your already carefully curated home. Lucky for me, they’re available to shop now!

What Is the Aera x Apartment Therapy Collection?

The Aera x Apartment Therapy collection features Aera’s mini scent diffuser in two limited-edition colors: terracotta and forest green. It’s the plug-in version of the brand’s original diffuser, which means that it’s super easy to operate and won’t take up a lot of space in your home. Just plug the device into a power outlet, insert the scent pod, and use the controls on top to set how strongly you’d like the scent to be diffused. It’s designed for spaces up to 400 square feet and you can set up schedules and timers on the convenient Aera app.

Included in the collab are three signature scents that are “inspired by our audience-sourced House Tours,” says Maxwell. There’s Brooklyn Brownstone, a subtle fragrance with notes of log fire, sea salt, and fresh air; English Cottage, which has floral notes like gardenia and tuberose, as well as amber, grapefruit, and fig; and Tuscan Villa, which smells of bergamot, sage, and lavender, among other notes. Each lasts up to 600 hours, which is 5x longer than other brands.

As Style Editor Emma explained in her review of the mini diffuser, Aera uses a science that the brand calls “surround scent” which allows you to control how many microdroplets of a fragrance are dispersed and how strongly they’ll permeate. “Like surround sound, the scent diffuses evenly throughout the room, with no obvious source,” Emma wrote. “Because the droplets are so small (in fact, 100x smaller than the average aerosol droplet), they burst quickly and release pure fragrance molecules.”

Why You’ll Love the Aera x Apartment Therapy Collection

Small yet mighty, the Aera Mini Diffuser is easy to use and packs a punch (even in open air layouts). The limited-edition colorways add a pop of color and the scents are distinguishable, yet subtle. Contributor Alicia is a fan of Brooklyn Brownstone. “As someone who is manifesting living in a Brooklyn brownstone, I was drawn to this scent based on packaging and name alone,” she said. “Luckily, the scent is as cozy as a warm apartment on a cool fall evening.”

And contributor Nikol says, “I’m especially fond of Tuscan Villa’s complexity, as it has both warm notes, like vanilla orchid, and greener notes, like the sage and lavender.” She adds that English Cottage has “a pleasant, fresh floral scent.”

For small spaces, the Aera Mini Diffuser can’t be beat, and no matter what fragrance you’re into, you’re sure to find one you love among the Inspired Spaces trio. So get ready to elevate your home and create a cozy ambience with the diffuser and scents today.
