I’ve often waxed poetic about the covering trade shows aspect of my job as a home design editor. Truth is, industry expos are a grind, for sure — long days, thousands of steps walking around a convention center, lots of information being thrown at you. But the whole discovering new products part of the experience — often from up-and-coming makers or small independent brands — really is the most satisfying, beautiful part of the process and what I love most. But isn’t always something that the average shopper really is privy to. Well, all that’s about to change. Because access to the coolest new brands and an ultra-curated shopping experience is the premise behind Afternoon Light, an online destination for home decor and furniture. And did I mention it’s from the brilliant minds of Deirdre Maloney and Minya Quirk, the duo once behind one of my favorite trade shows, Shoppe Object?

I took a look at the offerings — and tapped the founders for some of the best-sellers — to bring you this short list of very cool things to buy there.
