Airstream’s New Basecamp Trailers Won’t Let COVID-19 Ruin Road Trip Season
Airstream has heard the cries of travelers aching to safely explore the great outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic. The brand behind those iconic aluminum trailers has launched Basecamp 20 and Basecamp 20X, two new models that expand on the beloved Basecamp 16 travel trailer. Whether towed with a mid-sized SUV or a truck, the sleek 16-foot trailers will allow adventurers to quell their wanderlust at a time when air and train travel feel much too risky.
Like the Basecamp 16, the Basecamp 20 has a kitchen, bathroom, and lounge area that turns into a bed. With the new model, however, there’s a larger floor plan that allows for more flexible eating, sleeping, and living positions and more storage locations. There’s also a furnace and water heater, and the optional features include solar panels, a microwave, and an air conditioner. It comes with three interior decor colors to choose from: Glacier Lake, Red Rock, and Forest Ridge.
Basecamp 20X, on the other hand, is a more rugged, trail-friendly model that is off-road ready with larger tires, larger aluminum wheels, stainless steel protection, and tinted window guards. Browse the photos in the gallery below.
Suited for both the “novice and experienced Airstreamer,” the new models are “built for adventurers who are seeking a larger, more rugged travel trailer to traverse new terrains further off the beaten path,” per Airstream’s press release. “We created [the original Basecamp] for those who want to get out and explore nature in an easy-to-use, durable, and efficient vehicle,” Bob Wheeler, Airstream CEO and president, explained in the press release. “We are proud of this latest add to our product offering that continues in the tradition of innovation that supports adventures.”
It’s road trip season—and Airstream won’t let the global pandemic stand in the way of that. For more information about the new models, visit Airstream’s website.
