Podcaster Amanda Hirsch’s NYC Apartment Feels Like a Quiet, Hotel-Like Escape from the City
When Amanda Hirsch, who’s behind the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast and also the host of Hulu’s Get Real, and her husband Yaron Weiss (she calls him “the husb”) moved into a one-bedroom rental in Manhattan’s Upper East Side neighborhood, it was because of the price tag. In 2017, it was affordable for the area, plus it had a doorman and an elevator.
“It’s a very cozy building, only six floors; the superintendent is like family, and there are people that have lived in the building for over 30 years and new families with young children,” Amanda explains.
Fast forward a few years, and Amanda and Yaron had their own children, Noah and Lenny (they’ve always had Leo, their 13-year-old pup), and the building fatefully came through for them again. The couple hoped for a two-bedroom unit, but, as luck would have it, a three-bedroom corner apartment came on the market. They started renting as soon as they could!
Amanda and her family have now lived in the building for seven years (the doormen now play with Amanda and Yaron’s children in the lobby), and she describes it as a “home inside a crazy bustling city.” Making it feel like a home was a design challenge, though. So, she enlisted the help of Lauren Kremer and Kimberly Klein of Klein+Cremer Design.
Originally, Amanda described the apartment that they moved into as “basic” and “dated.” But the designers helped capture her design dreams: a reflection of how she’s grown both professionally and personally, with neutrals, soft textures, and organic shapes. The apartment makeover took six months, but it was a big win for Amanda and her family.
“What I love about the new apartment is how naturally it just feels like me,” Amanda says. “It has this quiet, hotel-like kind of luxury, but it still feels warm and inviting.”
