In what might be the most ingenious use of vibrant colored pool lights the internet has ever seen, one TikTok user just showed off a DIY light fixture she was inspired to create after seeing the purchase of a fellow TikTok user, and creating your own version is equally easy and affordable, too.

Back in February, interior designer Emily Shaw saw a post by fellow TikToker @honeybobabear showing off a set of Chakev Floating Pool Lights, a 10-pack of waterproof orbs that can be controlled with the included remote for a customized LED light-up experience, offering 16 color combinations, four brightness adjustment, and three lighting modes. The lights are designed for use outdoors or indoors, as evidenced by the original clip, in which @honeybobabear scattered them throughout her room for an “Avatar”-inspired lighting scheme that truly comes to life when the lights go off.

Shaw took it to the next level, sharing with her more than 4 million followers that she took advantage of the included metal hooks to hang each orb at varying levels to a wooden dowel with string, before using a thick rope to hang the fixture on the ceiling above her bed. She noted that it cost around $40 total and looks “amazing” from every angle, with a commenter adding that fishing line would also make the lights look like they’re floating.

The lights also include an extra set of replaceable batteries, offering an average battery life of 24 to 30 hours of use. And since they’re designed for all weather conditions, they’ll look great whether you fasten them together to create your own DIY light fixture or scatter them around any area of your home or yard for a unique lighting scheme — just be sure that if you do decide to hang them that you secure them as safely as possible to prevent the fixture or the bulbs from falling and causing injury or damage.
