Oh Command strips, where would we be without you? The perfect combination of strong and sticky, these little tabs are a mainstay in most people’s junk drawers.

Like many of you, I’ve been a hardcore Command strips fan for years. Back in college, I would use ’em to hang everything from frames, to long mirrors, to that ubiquitous poster of Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Today, they still play an integral role in making my rental apartment look less, well, rental.

But there’s one place that’s no match for even the strongest strip: My bathroom. For the past few years, I’ve used them to hang my towels and bathrobes. Problem is, the strips would eventually lose their adhesion and slip off my bathroom door—with my clean linens plummeting along with them.

At first, I thought it was a matter of trial and error, so I would make small tweaks to my application strategy. I tried swapping out the small, plastic hooks for durable (and stylish) brushed nickel ones. I tried attaching three hooks instead of two. I tried waiting a few days before hanging up my robes and towels. But no matter what I tried, I would always find my stuff piled up on my floor.

Maybe it’s the humidity from my warm showers or my thick, damp towels, but applying Command strips (and reapplying… and reapplying… and… you get the picture, right?) was getting really old. But what other option did I have?

Or so I thought. It wasn’t until my mom suggested buying a traditional shower rack that I even considered an alternative. So, a few months ago, I took the plunge and purchased this over-the-door towel rack—and it’s been bathroom bliss ever since.

With a 4.7/5 rating, over 2,000 positive reviews, and an “Amazon’s Choice” badge, this rack will not disappoint. First and foremost, it keeps all my bath linens in place, which is something I can’t say about the hundreds of Command strips I’ve used. The two square top brackets are thin enough to let you fully open and close your door, but won’t scuff up your door or arch’s paint job. Oh, and I did I mention it comes pre-built? No assembly required!

Although I have yet to put a timer to it, I’m convinced it lets my towels dry faster. You see, this model has 11 metal hooks that are strong enough to hold your thickest, plushest towel. There’s enough room for all my shower accoutrements, but I only hang my two bathrobes and one towel. That way, the pieces I use on a daily basis have enough room to air dry versus being crammed together and absorbing each other’s moisture.

Best of all, it’s under $15, which is less than I’ve spent on things like books, wine glasses, and candles!

I know what you’re thinking: “Duh! There are plenty of organizing racks online, this is not revolutionary.” I hear you. If I’m being totally honest, I’m shocked it took me so long to learn such a simple lesson. But sometimes, you’re so desperate to make a hack work that you overlook the simplest solutions.
