Name: Silvia Rotundo
Location: Yarraville — Victoria. Australia

My name is Silvia and I live in a suburb called Yarraville in Victoria, Australia. My home is a post-war brick bungalow that I share with my husband Frank along with our beloved toy poodle Sofia.

Two years ago we decided to extend and renovate our home after finding we needed more space prompted by my career change. After many years of working as an interior decorator I decided to pursue my life long passion to paint full time.

We toyed with the idea of relocating, however decided to make the changes to our current home so we could stay in the area. We love Yarraville so much and found it difficult to leave. It’s a creative community with a great village nearby with its own cinema and fantastic cafes. We are also a ten-minute drive to the beach; being near the water was a top priority for us.

The home was originally [1,100 square feet] and with the addition of a new family room, utility/bathroom and home studio it is now a [2,000 square feet] home. I love our home for its general character and features, such as the cornice work and high ceilings. We worked with Andrew Kirkland of Hatch Projects on the extension. My style is what I describe as accidental. Through years of collecting pieces I love, I have managed to create a warm and welcoming home. I have a lot of keepsakes that have been passed down to me, such as glassware and crockery from my mother and mother-in-law. These are the pieces that I find I love the most and truly make my house a home.

I’m inspired by handmade items and artisans. I love pieces that have meaning and a story. My favorite rooms are my new studio along with my tiny walk-in pantry with its open shelving filled with heirlooms and flea market finds. It’s where I feel connected to my own story and the people I love.

Thanks, Silvia!
