Name: Liesel
Location: Vredehoek — Cape Town, South Africa

We fell in love with this house the moment we saw it! It felt like an old, friendly farmhouse, surrounded by mountains but just a few blocks away from vibey Cape Town City Centre. After spending a few years in London, we wanted to get back to a simpler lifestyle but were hooked on the high street concept of having grocers and flower sellers within walking distance from your house.

Vredehoek (literally meaning Peace Corner) is perfect for this. We can see our local, well loved coffee shop, Lazari, from our gate and serendipitously even share our moving in anniversaries with them.

I am an interior designer, sharing the house with my husband Pieter, son Jack and daughter Gabi. Although I work from a studio attached to the house, the house is often very different from my work as it is full of made and inherited pieces while I often work with new elements and more contemporary spaces.

I am passionate about spaces and color and the emotions they evoke so enjoy using it as my lab. It is not a precious house – it can’t be with two kids and three cats… and I have come to realize that there is a lot of freedom in that.

Thanks, Liesel !
