Here’s What 5 Animated Bedrooms Would Look Like in Real Life
There are lots of reasons to love animated shows, but one is surely to see what creators and animators do to interior spaces when not constricted by the limitations of the real world. This means that some of the spaces in your favorite animated shows are big, bold, and really stretch the imagination. Sometimes, because of color choice or layout or because there’s a giant tree trunk in the middle of it, it’s hard to imagine that space actually existing in the real world.
But that’s exactly the idea behind the fun collaboration between NeoMam Studios and Budget Direct Home Insurance. They teamed up with interior designers to create real-life renderings of some of your favorite animated TV show bedrooms. See what came out of this exercise below.
Tina Belcher’s bedroom, “Bob’s Burgers”
The girl loves her pinks and purples almost as she loves horses (and butts, but that’s neither here nor there), so it’s no surprise that her bedroom is decked out in feminine shades and equine memorabilia. In the real life rendering, the monochrome color scheme doesn’t look nearly as jarring as you’d expect, but sure, all the horse stuff is A LOT. Still, this room looks perfect for the awkward, hopeless romantic teen in your life.
Serena Tsukino/Sailor Moon’s bedroom, “Sailor Moon”
Speaking of teens, Sailor Moon’s bedroom is an oasis. When you’re a superhero, you want a room that’s calm and cozy to come home to, don’t you? I mean, I’m not a superhero, so I’m truly asking. This real life version of Serena/Sailor Moon’s bedroom is ethereal and full of light, and highlights one of the key aspects of the animated version: Sailor Moon’s traditional chabudai table.
Doug Funnie’s bedroom, “Doug”
Doug was your basic kid in a sweater vest and his room always felt pretty real world ready, and this rendering proves that. Budget Direct made sure to include nods to Quailman—the greatest hero of our time—and Doug’s love of music. How else could he be bangin’ on a trashcan and drummin’ on a street light all day long? The only real change here is that in the animated world, Doug Funnie loved the Beets, in the real world, he gets the Beatles.
Glimmer’s bedroom, “She-ra and the Princesses of Power”
Now, this is what I’m talking about. Glimmer’s bedroom on the Netflix reboot of the 80s classic animated show feels like it’s from another planet. Because, well, it is. Glimmer is a future queen, so it makes sense that her bedroom is head-to-toe regal purples and golds. But the real showpiece is that floating gold staircase leading to a suspended bed. It seems kind of dangerous, but there is no reward without some risk, right?
Finn the Human’s bedroom, “Adventure Time”
Finn the Human’s home is the perfect place for literal tree huggers. YOU’RE WELCOME. The giant tree branch through the middle of Finn’s bedroom, within his multi-story treehouse, is the showstopper here, but most likely impossible to recreate outside of this rendering. Still, fill up your room with reclaimed wood pieces and you might get a similar feel.
