When my family bought our 1992 contemporary Spanish home in 2013, we inherited a killer view of L.A. decks for days, a sunken living room with vaulted ceilings, and charming bay windows. But we also got the original 2 1/2 bathrooms, which were painfully dated. Despite our best intentions, a string of urgent home care expenses has repeatedly postponed our coveted and highly anticipated bathroom remodel.

Until the right time for renovation arrives, I try to freshen up our bathrooms by adding accents that will enliven the space without breaking the bank. During my most recent late-night home decor browsing session, I happened upon Anthropologie’s adorable and affordable collection of bath mats — and I was transfixed! I never knew bath mats could be this cute. In particular, I fell in love with the Daisy Tile Tufted Cotton Bath Mat. I kept returning to this pretty bath mats until I finally pulled the trigger and bought it — and I am so glad I did.

These Anthropologie bathmats are like an instant makeover

Two of these beauties now grace the floors of my daughter’s bathroom, which doubles as our guest bath. The symmetrical daisy design is so cheerful, and the lively colors brighten up this windowless bathroom, while being muted enough to complement the space.

They are supersoft underfoot and don’t slip, despite not being rubber-backed. Who knew bath mats could make such a difference? Not me. But I didn’t stop there.

The elegant Lucia Handcrafted Bath Mat was the next to catch my eye. At $68 this one is slightly more expensive than my initial find, but I decided it was worth it.

It was difficult to choose between the three gorgeous colors, but I landed on “lavender gray” because it suits my primary bath the best. Its plush texture and beauty elevate the bathroom — and our moods — every time my husband and I step up to the vanity.

Lastly, I landed on the Maeve by Anthropologie Scalloped Cotton Bath Mat to give the powder room a sweet and cozy lift. Like the other bathrooms, the powder room is in dire need of an update.

These whimsical bath mats are proof that intentional accents can help. I didn’t realize how much my bathroom was missing this lovely bath mat until I laid it down, and now I can’t imagine the space without it.
