The average person spends a significant portion of their life — about a third of it, actually — sleeping. That means that you shouldn’t purchase just any bed frame on impulse. Visually it’s the centerpiece of your bedroom and, when it comes down to it, it’s where you spend most of your time at home. In terms of size and price, a bed frame is a pretty major purchase, so it’s smart to invest in one that looks and performs exactly to your standards. You want one that you won’t even consider parting with anytime soon because it’s timeless, sturdy, and so you.

Enter: Interior Define. The Chicago-based brand is all about high-quality, custom furniture that’s “uniquely yours,” so you don’t have to settle for something that so many others already own. The brand began with seating, and expanded its offerings to bedroom furniture last year. Apartment Therapy founder and CEO Maxwell Ryan joined forces with Interior Define to launch the Maxwell collection, which started out with sofas, chairs, and ottomans. As of today, the collection now includes the cozy, classic, and (of course) customizable Maxwell bed, too.

What Is the Maxwell Bed?

Maxwell says his inspiration “was to take a traditional shape and make it fresh,” and the end result is a bed frame that we’re sure you’ll fall in love with instantly and continue to enjoy for years to come. Its timeless aesthetic comes from the wingback shape of the headboard, for one. (The profile has roots in the 17th century and has maintained its popularity since.) Beyond giving it a more unique presence, the curved sides also enhance the feeling of security and comfort while you’re tucked in. Not to mention, the shape also makes the headboard easier to lean against.

Another hallmark is the bed’s wooden ball feet, which happen to also have origins in the 17th century. The soft and organic look has also stuck around over the years, but we’ve noticed it popping up outside of antique stores quite a bit lately. The smaller feet keep the frame low to the ground, but that doesn’t mean storage is out of the question: You can add on a lift-top storage feature, which is a lifesaver for those with fully packed closets and dressers.

You can make the Maxwell Bed even more special by selecting your preferred fabric and color, of which there are dozens of variations. Velvet, linen, tweed, and even leather are all on the table, as well as over 100 shades. Neutral browns, beiges, and blacks are available, as are rich reds, purples, and greens. Last but not least, you can add an extra five inches of height to the headboard to enhance its presence further.

After making the frame your own and figuring out which features work best for your space, the top-notch materials and construction will guarantee that your investment will be well worth it. That’s key when you’re shopping for an item that’s such a central part of your home that you’ll use day in and day out!
