An Artist’s New Build Home in Melbourne Was the Perfect Canvas to Fill with Colors
Artist and photographer Cass Danson’s work is super colorful and encourages such an intense feeling of happiness that it feels like it’s bursting off the canvas. So, it’s no surprise that three years ago, after buying a new-build house in West Melbourne, Australia, she had to infuse it with color.

“I would say my home is a mix of styles, but it’s mostly just colorful,” Cass writes. “I like to incorporate a mix of styles and color to make my home super unique and specific to me and my style.”
Cass shares the four-bedroom house with her husband, Matt, daughter Lola, son Charlie, and a pup named Juno. Every room is splashed with color, but one of her favorite projects was creating murals in her kids’ rooms. “Both were painted with love and bring so much fun and joy to their spaces,” she says.
It turns out that paint, a medium that she’s well-versed in, was the best way to make their home unique while staying on a budget. Being a stay-at-home mom (or as Cass describes it, “SAHM”) and due to rising living costs, it was important that their home changes be inexpensive while also making an impact.
“The difference some paint can make to a space is incredible,” Cass shares. “Some other things we do to stay in budget is thrifting/repurposing. Finding old furniture and giving it new life.”
