A Catskills Dream Home Mixes Victorian and Arts & Crafts
Name: Spencer Bergen
Location: Andes, New York
Size: 2,000 square feet
Years lived in: 3 months, owned
The home was built in 1910 and sits in the historic hamlet of Andes, located in the Catskill Mountains—just two and a half hours from New York City. It features all original woodwork from when it was first built, and includes Victorian and Craftsman touches. While decorating I have tried keep in line with the cozy country setting while tying in the history of the home. I use the home as a getaway from my life in NYC and also list it on Airbnb.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Historic Arts & Crafts country home.
What is your favorite room and why? I love the fireplace room because it’s the perfect place to relax on a winter day. I furnished this room with a daybed so you can recline and take in the fire from the fireplace, which is complete with leaded glass and original woodwork. It also helps that the room is right off of the dining room, which gives you a peek at the vintage floral wallpaper.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I have an attic in this house that has a great pitched roof. I think it would be a great library or game room one day, but it currently is completely unfinished, with nails poking out everywhere.
Thanks, Spencer!
