Like the pagoda umbrellas lined along the sand at a chic resort on a seaside town accented with rugged cliffs and cloves, ASH NYC has a collection of pillow chairs that evokes summertime on the Italian Riviera. Designed by Will Cooper, the chairs (simply titled Pillow Chair) consist of three cushions stacked on top of each other with pinstripes and come in red, yellow,  blue, and green—calling to the mind the Italian summer vacation of our quarantine dreams. (Oh, and each chair retails at $2,300, making it nearly the same cost as a summer vacation, too.)

Still, we’d be remiss if we didn’t note that the act of simply gazing at the Pillow Chair immediately transports us to a beachside resort in Portofino, Italy’s famed fishing village, or even Santa Margherita Ligure, a commune in the Italian region of Liguria. Given that the coronavirus pandemic has made travel unsafe this summer, we can’t help but stare longingly at Cooper’s designs and fantasize about taking refuge from the Italian sun under a cabana off a coast in Italy someplace, drinking a fruity beverage among tourists and locals alike. Basically, staring at the Pillow Chair through a screen is about the closest we can get to summering in a European country this year.

ASH NYC also has a collection of other pillow chairs that range in design, such as the Antique Camel India Pillow Chair and the Blue India Pillow Chair—both of which are inspired by the rich designs of India. And, this year, the brand debuted a brand new pillow silhouette in a separate collaboration called The Pillow Sofa, which, as its name suggests, takes on the form of a sofa with more seating. Who knew that chairs could transport quarantine dwellers to another country?
