And sure, it’s only a tiny sliver of emptiness, but in a room that’s otherwise decorated, it sticks out like a missing tooth. Here are some ideas that you can buy or DIY to make it feel a little less bare. A cool, antique ladder can be an awesome garage sale find.

Colder, winter months often means dealing with windows that are old or weren’t installed correctly—ones that let cold air seep into your home. If you’re a renter, or don’t want to shell out the cash to replace them entirely, there’s a simple and cost effective solution: Hang some thermal curtains. A thermal curtain has several thick layers of fabric, in addition to an added layer of foam or insulation.

While we’re not suggesting you hoard all of your glass liquor bottles—please, recycle that mountain of two buck Chuck empties—sometimes a glass bottle comes along that’s too pretty to toss.
