This Oversized Round Vase Has Captured My Heart
Despite living in a small apartment in Manhattan, I own a significant number of vases (12 and counting). They’re one of my favorite things to thrift or buy new — and I use all of these vessels quite often. In New York City, it’s so easy to pick up affordable bouquets of flowers on a whim, whether at the corner bodega, the farmer’s market, or just during a regular trip to Trader Joe’s (love those $7 tulips that come in so many delightful colors!). Now that springtime is here, I’m indulging in peonies (see above) and plenty of other cheerful, seasonal florals.
Lately, I’ve been particularly enjoying using my new favorite vase: the Eleanor Vase from Ballard Designs. My mom is always raving about the retailer and frequently orders pieces from the website for her own home. While I did own a great indoor/outdoor rug from Ballard back in the day, it had been a while since I’d scoped out their offerings, so I thought I would take just a quick peek at some of their new decor and furniture. As soon as I spotted this vase, I knew I had to have it based on its fun shape and beautiful brass stand (which I felt justified the price). I love how the piece looks like it could be vintage but can be purchased with just a click, and it’s excellent for all kinds of flowers — I’ve used it to hold peonies, tulips, and daffodils thus far.
I keep this vase either on the dining table in my living room (New York City problems!) or on my coffee table, and I love how it looks in both spaces. The piece is actually quite large, measuring 11 and a half inches tall with a 10 inch diameter, so it really adds some punch to my small space. The larger size is also the only downside to the vase: it’s not super easy to store behind cabinet doors when it isn’t in use. That said, the vase is so gorgeous and I buy flowers so often that I plan to keep it on display most of the time anyway!
I’m excited to keep using this beautiful piece as the seasons change (I think it would look so fabulous with dried berries in the winter, for example) and have received tons of compliments. If you’re looking for a gift for the hostess in your life or just feel like treating yourself, this vase is a designer-worthy, unique pick that will stand the test of time thanks to its elegant simplicity.
