The Style Secrets That Help This Sunroom Go Viral Every Time It’s Shared

It was well over five years ago when designer Clara Jung of Banner Day Interiors first posted a photo on Instagram of this stunning sunroom that she designed for a client. At the time, she didn’t think much of it, but it ended up going viral. According to Jung’s caption, it’s the photo that “gets reposted the most by far.” With its soothing colors and classic style, it’s easy to see why. 

Even half a decade later, the image still gets plenty of love whenever she posts it — a true indicator of how timeless the design is. “So comfy and inviting,” and “It’s just beyond stunning” are just a few of the praises you’ll find in the comments. After studying the various elements of the room, I believe I was able to distill what makes it so appealing — and how you can achieve a similar lasting style in your own space.   

To keep things feeling light and airy, Jung chose soft colors that evoke a calming vibe. Two of the walls are painted a light green color that can read either olive or sage (hues that are commonly found in nature), while the ceiling, trim, and window wall are painted a bright white, which bounces plenty of light around the room. 

Although the two paint colors she chose are both light, they have just the right amount of contrast to add visual interest. Everything else in the room is intentionally kept very neutral, leaving only two other colors to pop — the blue ticking stripe on the chaise lounge chairs and a hint of pink from a throw blanket.  

For a classic look, Jung opted for two chaise lounges with English roll arms (from a now discontinued line at IKEA, similar to the HÄRLANDA). A brass floor lamp and bronze metal side table further enhance the room’s traditional style, while a rattan swing chair offers an unexpected boho touch.

It’s the proportions of this style mix that really make the room feel fresh yet timeless. Grounding the space with classic pieces allows the more modern ones to stand out.  

Because a sunroom is meant to be a space where you can retreat and feel more immersed in nature, Jung wisely wove in a few pieces with natural textures. A jute rug draws the eye into the space and softens the red brick floor. This color and texture is also repeated in the rattan swing chair.

The accessories — a bouclé throw blanket featuring chunky tassels, linen throw pillows, and a sheepskin throw — offer additional visual interest. They also seriously dial up the cozy factor and create an inviting respite to curl up in and take in the view.
