When Kim moved in with her boyfriend, she was shocked that he didn’t want to get rid of eight old, damaged banquet chairs. But, the challenge forced Kim to get creative, and a little inspiration from a trip to a retail store sparked a DIY idea.

From Kim:

Originally I spray-painted them and decided to cover the seat and back with fabric. The first finished prototype made me feel like I was visiting someone’s not so cool grandma’s house, so it was back to the drawing board. A trip to Target where they had round, webbed bungee cord chairs on sale brought about a bouncy idea. Why not use bungee cord?

I sourced a wholesaler on the web. I spent $127 on 1,000 feet of cord and immediately got to work. Drilling a few holes in the metal frame for anchoring, I wrapped the chair frames with bungee cord. Now Francois and I have a “new” set of chairs that are comfortable, modern looking, didn’t cause him cardiac arrest because I’d thrown out his stuff, and they didn’t break the bank.

Thank you Kim!
