This is a great makeover and a cool story because it involves a mom and son working collaboratively to create a completely new room for a budget of only $150! Take a dip into Levi’s newly nautical bedroom (puns = not my strong suit).

I know, wonderful, isn’t it? Not only did Levi’s mom, Janel (of Nellie Bellie) employ some highly impressive DIY and repurposing skills, she also used some high-level negotiating skills to bring this makeover about in a way that worked for both her spending limit and her son’s vision.

Janel proves how far your own imagination can take you, especially when on a tight budget. Case in point: the wall-mounted wood structure above the bed? It’s made from the slats of Levi’s deconstructed bunk bed! And the hip industrial bins in his shelf cubbie? She collected them from around their house. Those fabulous industrial lights are DIY numbers, costing only $12 each. Finally, my absolute favorite part of Levi’s new room has got to be the linen closet turned reading nook-that-looks-like-a-submarine. I mean, talk about the perfect place to curl up with a good book. On top of all the great stuff happening in Levi’s new room is the fact that Janel only spent $120 for the whole project, which was $30 under budget and entirely inspiring.
