Before & After: See Which Colour Katy Painted Her Bedroom
Hello, Apartment Therapy readers! I am beyond excited to share the results of our newly painted bedroom! First, I want to thank everyone who voted and commented on my before post. All of your ideas & help in deciding the perfect colour for our room were so inspiring. It was a close race, but in the end, Farrow & Ball’s Peignoir No. 286 won!
Peignoir, the beautiful, muted pinkish hue, has turned out to be the perfect choice for this room! The colour (yes, I’m using the British spelling, in honour of Farrow & Ball’s heritage!) is not your traditional pink – it’s more subtle and, as my friend pointed out, the colour is nuanced enough to change throughout the day as the light comes in and out of the windows. In the morning and afternoon, it gives off that warmth and character that I was really looking for when we first moved into the space. And in the evening, the colour is a little more dramatic and moody, making it a truly serene escape where we can really unwind.
It contrasts beautifully with the hardwoods, which we decided to showcase more openly by removing the too-small rug that previously sat beneath the bed.
You might notice we made a few small changes to the décor, as well. We traded out our old, platform bed for a new one, as well as some new bedding. We really wanted darker linens that complemented the Farrow & Ball colour choice, so we went with a dark gray with a hint of purple. We also added a small shelf to act as a “micro desk” – like I mentioned before, we are trying to make the most of what little space we have, and our bedroom seemed like the perfect place to add a small nook for working from home.
Taking some cues from your comments, we removed the small shelf that was above the bed and added some art to the walls. These black and white photos (taken by yours truly) will be a place holder for the “real art” we plan to buy one day. I love the mixture of natural woods, black, white and spots of gold and burnt orange. All of these colors seem to live perfectly inside of this room with Peignoir, and I couldn’t be happier!
The colour has exceeded my expectations – it coexists perfectly with the neutral palette throughout my home, but it adds some depth that this room so desperately needed. Farrow & Ball’s new colour collection made narrowing down my colour options super easy. Their 9 new colours – ranging from deep moody hues to bright tones to muted pastels – are ideal for turning a space into a a cozy and optimistic sanctuary, which I feel we definitely achieved in our new and improved bedroom!
