When Alisha and her husband decided the time had come to rearrange all the bedrooms in their house to better suit the needs of their growing family, they were lucky enough to have some old family favorites to help set up a new room for their toddler son that could double as a guest room when necessary. Alisha knew she wanted to reuse the beds that had belonged to her husband when he was a child, but also knew they needed an update to fit with her vision.

Beyond the red paint (and the bedding, curtains, etc), can you spot the big difference in the beds themselves?

That’s right- the beds are taller in the after picture; 9 inches taller to be exact. The vintage beds were too low to allow for under the bed storage, a central part of Alisha’s plan for the space. She and her husband added 9 inch table legs to the ends of the headboards and footboards to raise them up enough to accommodate storage underneath. The final product is a wonderful big boy room sure to also delight any visiting relatives, at least until that second bed is taken over by Alisha’s baby daughter!
