We’re on a road trip across the United States to tell people about Complete + Happy Home, and while we’re at it, we’re saving the country, one room at a time! Our second makeover stop is Washington, D.C., where we meet Wintta and her studio with an inherited Murphy bed, just itching to for us to come in and make her Parisian dream a reality.

“I love my neighborhood and my home but would like to add some style, dimension and most importantly function to my studio,” says Wintta, a government lawyer. “I know that this apartment could be great (and hopefully could one day incorporate my two style influences: my international travel and Anthropologie) but I need your help!”

So, help we brought. With the expertise (and elbow grease) of Maxwell, the original Apartment Therapist and Christiane Lemieux, founder of DwellStudio and creative director for Wayfair, Wintta now has a functional and beautiful space that works as both a bedroom and a living room, with plenty of Parisian glam.

Wintta started a Pinterest board of things she liked from Wayfair.com and other inspiring images, and from there, we helped narrow down what to bring in. The main objectives were to give her old Murphy bed some style, and to help the space function better as both a bedroom and a living room.

Even with the bed down, Wintta still has room for her full living room setup. If she needs more space for entertaining, the bed goes up and out of the way, making an area for more seating and allowing room to move and mingle.

We also wanted to add some function to this wall that transitions Wintta’s studio from hallway to kitchen to living/sleeping area. By adding a desk here, it becomes the perfect spot to drop her bag, mail, and keys, to filter out the outside world and get ready to relax and enjoy her home.
