Buying an apartment in New York would have to be one of the most stressful things you can do in life (and I’m a mother of two!)

After missing out on two other apartments in our search for a new home we were quick to pounce when we saw this one. When we first walked into the apartment we saw straight through the bad lighting and dark wood. The space had so much potential, with lots of windows and high ceilings and a view facing Prospect Park.

With meager funds we planned out the key things we felt would make the most impact and give us the most bang for our buck.

We started our kitchen renovation by opening up the space and removing the wall between the kitchen and living area. We really wanted to maximize our view of the park right through into the kitchen.

After knocking out the wall we added some extra IKEA cabinets to expand the counter and add more storage space. Another key change that really elevated the space was the ceaser stone counter top. I painted the existing cabinets myself and added new handles to freshen their look. My other DIY contribution was to cover the white dishwasher with some high quality metallic contact paper.

Another key area that needed improvement was lighting. We added new lighting in the kitchen making it a lot more open and light.

Thank you, Elizabeth!
