Before & After: A Garage Leftover Gets a New Life
It’s hard not to romanticize the meet-cute between Sofia and her now stunning bar. Just an average, overlooked workbench is collecting dust all on its lonesome, until it finally found that special someone who came along and claimed it.
From Sofia: I found this workbench under mounds of dusty boxes in the cellar at my mum’s house. We don’t even really know who it belonged to – it was one of those things that got left behind by the previous home owners and was just being used as a tabletop.
After initially doubting its full potential, we got to work. I had an empty space opposite the dining table where I thought it would fit perfectly as a bar.
We sanded down the top, removed the frame and added chunkier legs and a sturdier shelf. We also gave it a good lick of tinted varnish. We worked on the project over 2 weekends and it was one of the first things we got set up in our new place.
This project made realize how important it is to look past first impressions of pieces of furniture and keep your eyes open for little gems even in the most unexpected places!
