Isadora finally found the farmhouse of her dreams and set about creating a modern, Scandi inspired look in the dinning room, while sticking to a small budget. Putting their previous DIY skills to the test, Isadora and her husband created a bright and stylish space that is warmly welcoming.

| From Isadora: My husband and I have been dreaming of getting a farmhouse in Sonoma County. We spent a year and a half looking for the right property at the right price. We knew we wanted a fixer, but we also knew that we didn’t want a property that was falling apart. We finally found a great little two bedroom and quickly named it the Farmhaus. Since this is our getaway home, we needed to be very conservative with our budget. To manage costs we decided to undertake most of the renovation ourselves. We bought and renovated our past homes, but we’ve never been so hands on. This has been a real learning experience. Fortunately, we are not ones to shy away from a project, or to proud to admit if/when we need help. The dining room renovation is one that we undertook completely on our own, except for the electrical work. I had always had a vision of our Farmhaus having a rustic, yet modern Scandinavian feel including a minimal palette, warm wood tones, and light walls and floors. The overall cost of furnishing this room came in at under $1K, with a careful mix of thrifted vintage finds for character, big box purchases for practicality, and a splurge for impact. We’re so happy with the way things turned out. We love sitting at the table with our boys, sharing a meal and looking out at our fields. |
