From Jeffery:

My wife and daughter went to the Philippines for 3 months. I wanted to surprise my wife with a living room makeover, which I tackled in the two weeks before their arrival home.

Our living room was boring. The last owners had a thing for wood grain and dull colors. We still had my dad’s furniture and our living room was more of a play area filled with toys for my 2 year old daughter. I finally got sick of it and decided it was time for a change and a surprise.

The old living room did not show any of our personality at all. I’m a fun colorful wedding photographer and a fan of hip fashion as well. Our style is fun, fresh, hip and urban. I wanted that to show in our living room space as well as the rest of the house.

I painted the living room and also down the hallway with gray. I changed all the furniture with a couch and accent chairs from Ikea. The coffee table was from Urban Outfitters and the accent table was from Target. Since my wife was born and raised in the Philippines, I wanted remind her of where she’s from with a bit of a Philippines feel to it. The canvas photo was from a recent photo I took when I went to the Philippines. It looks like a painting but it’s really a photo taken of a tricycle in really slow shutter speed. The accent chairs have that island feel to it as well as the table lamp.

So, what does his family think of the new room?

I had told my wife that she had a surprise coming a week before she arrived, but I told her that my gift would be too big to take to the airport. So she had to wait another 3 hours drive home from the airport for the surprise. When we got home I let her lead the way to the front door and when she opened she could not believe the transformation and she couldn’t believe I did it all. She loved everything about it, especially the Philippines elements that I added. She was in total awe! Meanwhile my daughter, who is only 2 years old, was wondering where all the furniture came from. You can tell in her face she knew something was different. Her favorite item was the rocking accent chairs from IKEA. My wife says she wouldn’t change anything, that she approves of everything I did and she feels like it’s a home now. What a relief!

Thank you Jeffery!
