Claire scored a deal on a pair of campaign nightstands, that, despite the brass being in good shape, could use some refinishing. She didn’t really need the bedroom storage, so she put them to use in the living room:
From Claire:
I came across these two nightstands in a booth at the Mission Antique Mall in Prairie Village, Kansas. The booth’s owner was there and she gave me a great deal on the set (less than $150). They needed some attention— the finish was scratched and there were various stains accumulated over the years— but their blocky shape was fantastic, all hardware was in tact (even that fabulous brass around the bottom of the legs!), and I could see they had great potential.
Once I got them home, I removed all of the hardware and cleaned it in soapy water. Somehow a previous owner must have used a wood stain on the pieces with the hardware still on it . So I sanded all of that stain down and brushed on a fresh coat of midnight navy semi-gloss paint/primer. There were originally some fun spade shaped brass corners on the top, but they weren’t my personal favorite and felt a little dated to me, so I removed those and used some straight brass corners from the mid-back on the front instead for a more updated look.
I ended up re-purposing these from bedroom nightstands to coffee tables for the living room that (bonus!) offer great storage.
Thank you, Claire!
