When I think about color and pattern in an outdoor space I usually think throw pillows or maybe the occasional funky patio umbrella. Claire decided that pattern need not be limited to textiles and accessories and got really creative with her weathered bench.

From Claire: I had a neglected old bench in my garden, that was crying out for a revamp. Instead of just repainting, I decided to give it a designer makeover.

As I’m a huge fan of Marimekko especially their iconic Unikko print, I used this as the inspiration for my bench makeover. Firstly, I painted the bench white and then using some Marimekko paper napkins, I decoupaged the whole bench with the Unikko poppy print.

The whole project is easier than you think and the bench can be weatherproofed so it will last for years. It certainly has brightened up my garden.
