Aimee’s twin toddlers had done a number on her dining set, but she was hesitant to shell out for something new while they still have an appetite for destruction. Inspired by kitchen counter DIYs, this IKEA table gets a tough new top:
From Aimee:
I was the sad owner of an even sadder, hodgepodge dining set – Ikea table and chairs, Target bench. The tabletop had taken quite the beating, thanks to the 2-year-old-twins who eat at it 37 times a day.
I desperately wanted a white dining set, but couldn’t justify buying anything new on account of the toddlers in my home who destroy nice things at an alarming rate.
I was inspired by concrete countertop tutorials on some of my favorite blogs. I figured that if you could put concrete on a countertop, you could probably put it on a tabletop too.
Using about $100 in supplies (both concrete and paint), I was able to completely transform my dining set. The best part: the concrete, when sealed properly, is durable and completely playdough, crayon, and PB&J-proof.
