What sounds like a totally stressful situation, moldy walls and dilapidated cabinets, had a silver lining for Kessie. She was able to transform her kitchen into a space she loves, and live to tell the tale!

From Kessie: After purchasing our very first home we realized we had mold in the ceiling and part of a wall of the kitchen. The old cabinets were falling apart when we bought the home and weren’t salvageable. Not only did we need to replace the cabinetry, we had to take the walls down to the studs.

My husband formerly worked for a drywall company, so we were able to DIY the entire thing with the help of an electrician father and plumber friend. The entire kitchen cost just over $5,000, including the cabinets and counters and second hand appliances (that are perfectly functional for our family).

I’m almost a little glad we had mold, as horrible as that sounds, but I love the amazing transformation. There’s nothing like knocking down drywall and installing cabinets to strengthen a marriage, but it feels like home now. And I am no longer haunted in my sleep by the mauve trim – which is priceless.

Thank you, Kessie!
