After snatching up a thrift store console table, Claire decided to give it a shabby-chic, Pineapple focused makeover. Without going overboard, she peppered the table with Pineapple and the result is a charming and whimsical accent table.

From Claire: I have a thing about Pineapples, I think they are beautiful, the king of fruits. I hate to admit it but I’m seduced by lovely packaging and as fruit goes, pineapples come in their own fantastic packaging. Therefore when I picked up this rather boring but useful console table from the thrift store, I decided to give it a pineapple themed makeover. It was the perfect size for my lounge with 2 handy draws for the remote and takeaway menus. It was just a bit boring and tired looking. All it need was a bit of pimping with paint and new handles to turn it into something delightful and a bit more interesting.

Pineapples were stenciled on the top and the side of the table, pineapple knobs put on the draws. The drawers were also lined with pineapple wrapping paper.

The paint job I chose was also a glam/shabby combination. Glam in that I used a gold chrome spray paint. Shabby in that I went for a chippy look with a black chalk paint. To achieve the chippy look I first sprayed the edges of the table with gold paint, then applied vaseline to the chippy gold bits I wanted to show through. After painting the table in black chalk paint, the painted over vaseline just rubbed away to reveal the gold underneath.

My console table is certainly no longer boring and, apparently, pineapples are considered to be a welcoming symbol so a very apt motif for a furniture makeover.
