Is there anything more delightful than coming across a piece of furniture with good bones and a “free” sign? It’s not everyday that a simple DIY project sparks career inspiration, but this free chair Rachael stumbled on and brought home to fix up did. Though simple, it’s a sweet little makeover, and proof even the most unloved of furniture pieces can look nice with a little cleaning up.

From Rachael:

I actually found this chair while walking a friend’s dog and knew it was worth the challenging walk home to claim it. This chair had great lines and was definitely worth the update (and was free).

I sanded and refinished the wood in a darker stain and gave the reupholstery a bright and crisp new teal tweed. Overall the supplies for the project came in at around $45.

This was one of the projects I did last year that sparked my new venture — Remedy Remade. I had always enjoyed bringing old furniture back to life but I was now ready to leave my job and try it out as a career.
