Tamara spotted this old office chair that was in surprisingly good shape, so she snatched it up with plans to make it her own. Fast forward three years, throw in a lucky find at the fabric store and you have one gorgeously updated chair.

From Tamara: I see these old university office/lobby chairs in Surplus Goods quite often, but the joints are not always in great shape so I usually pass. This one is as solid as the day it was made…but it was grubby with a greasy coating on the wooden areas, and as you see, horrible old plaid upholstery fabric. When I saw that the seat and back were both simply screwed on, I realized I could do an easy (read: new sewing) reupholstery job on this chair.

It sat in the basement for three years….until I accidentally found this wool fabric while searching for something else at JoAnn fabric. The fabric was also 70% off, so I got it and finally gave this chair the makeover it deserved. I washed and scrubbed the wood, let it dry, and rubbed some tung oil on it….I didn’t need or want the wood to look new.

I love it! I live in a 1952 house with a mish-mash of new and old pieces, built-in bookcases and original artwork. This chair is right at home.

Thank you, Tamara!
