Before & After: A Simple Yet Dramatic Guest Room
Courtney and John felt that they could take a leap of design faith in their guest room. A dark and daring ceiling and some funky, textured decor helped shape the room into an interesting and inviting space.
From Courtney & John: In our opinion, a guest room renovation is the best kind of renovation! Though you want the room to be cohesive with the rest of your home, you don’t have to live in it everyday, so you can afford to take some risks.
The basic plan behind this guests room reno was “dramatic simplicity”. We decided to keep the exposed ceiling beams as the room’s focal point, while freshening up the space with paint, texture and vintage decor. The dark charcoal ceiling is very dramatic. Alone, it can make a room feel heavy, but paired with a soft grey wall color, freshly painted trim and white linens, the masculine and feminine design elements compliment each other perfectly. For contrast, we added a natural, textured sisal rug, fiber wall hanging and iron bed frame. The rest of the room is simply accented with choice vintage pieces and plants.
