It’s hard to describe the color of the kitchen in this historic Craftsman in Oakland, pre-renovation. Turquoise blue? Sea-foam green? Whatever the exact hue, it wasn’t quite the right shade for homeowners Brett and her husband Brandon when they purchased this house in March of 2016.

There was a lot that Brett and Brandon loved about this house when they purchased it though — like many charming original features that they were determined to keep intact, while they also worked to modernize and personalize the home to fit their lives and styles.

As Brett writes in their house tour: “Both my husband and I love to cook and spend the most time in the kitchen whether it’s cooking dinner together almost every night or hanging out with friends. We really took the time to plan and think out every detail of our kitchen so that it was functional for us and a focal point of the home.”

Brett continues: “A few of my favorite features in the kitchen would have to be the open shelving, the light fixture above the peninsula and the french doors that we love to keep open when the weather is nice.”
