Gray sofa with colorful pillows, pink wall, neon lips sign, and a large plant in a woven basket on a stool.

Joanne Mooney’s IKEA FLÅDIS planter did its job—aka, holding plants—but it looked pretty bland against the backdrop of her colorful home. She decided to use punch needling to give the seagrass basket a makeover, and the result is somewhere in the neighborhood of a frosted fringe cake combined with ’60s funky shag carpeting. In short: awesome.

To create the look, she started by tracing out a design on the basket with a marker, then moved along it with her punch needle and some colorful and chunky wool yarn.

“This took me about a week to make,” Joanne writes. “I did a little bit every evening. The craft punch needling is very therapeutic and addictive.”

She was pleasantly surprised at how well the seagrass basket worked with the punch needling process, so she picked up two more baskets and continued the fun!

Thank you for sharing, Joanne!
