BEHR has revealed their most popular paint colors of 2022, with the top five hues all centered on creating safe spaces in a chaotic world. Erika Woelfel, Vice President, Color & Creative Services at BEHR, explained to Apartment Therapy:

“This collection includes our 2022 Color of the Year, Breezeway, as well as four colors from our 2022 trends palette. We found that 2022 brought with it a sense of renewal and restoration, as well as a desire to explore new hobbies or adventure. These five mood-boosting colors and grounding hues lead with optimism, leave you feeling hopeful, and make a home feel like the ultimate safe-haven. Consumers are looking for a peaceful sanctuary, and these colors deliver that and more.”

Breezeway

BEHR’s 2022 color of the year is a silvery green shade with cool undertones, inspired by the earth’s beauty and mimics naturally stunning sea glass found on the shore of salty beaches. Woelfel said that the shade represents a feeling of anticipation and invokes a sense of comfort.

On how to best use the color, Woelfel advised: “Breezeway in particular pairs perfectly with many other colors, including creamy white, taupe, softened black, brown, nuanced pink, and terracotta red. Balance the color with décor made from textiles found in nature like light-washed wood, stone, cotton and more. The color also serves as the foundation for a variety of design styles, moving easily from casual to coastal and modern to vintage styling.”

Etched Glass

Etched Glass is a frosty grey-blue that embraces mindful focus and serene settings. A soothing neutral you can apply to areas that require you to concentrate — such as a home office — or places where you should be unwinding, like the bedroom.

Sunwashed Brick

A nuanced peachy pink that brings soft charm with peaceful allure. “Designers and do-it-yourselfers also love how versatile these colors are,” said Woelfel, talking about BEHR’s most popular paints. “These popular hues awaken the spirit of the home without overpowering the space, and pair beautifully with a variety of colors and textiles.”

Studio Clay

Studio Clay is a subtle sand tone that captures both comfort and expansive appeal in a space. It’s a shade that feels rustic but not too rustic in that it can look great alongside minimalist elements. Pair it with natural materials like wood, rattan, and of course, houseplants.

Cracked Pepper

An authentic and reliable softened black offers infinite versatility. “In addition to using these colors in living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, these elegant and versatile hues can be used as an accent color to freshen up doors, cabinetry, furniture, and more,”  Woelfel said.
