I Finally Found a Chic Small-Space-Friendly Modular Sofa Packed with Storage (It’s Easy to Assemble!)

If you live in a tiny apartment, then you know that every square inch of space counts. I’m always looking for smart ways to maximize my limited floor space — and when it comes to furniture, that means opting for pieces with hidden storage. And finding something that’s equally functional and comfortable is no small feat! For the last few weeks I’ve been testing the Bellamia Bella Pillow Cushion Couch and Storage Ottoman, and they are the perfect addition to my tight quarters.

Bellamia’s Bella couches are all modular in design and come in two cushion options: pillow cushion, which is more plush and less structured with a casual silhouette, and box cushion, which has clean lines and a sturdy interior foam support for a more firm seat. The couch comes in 15 colors in performance linen, velvet, bouclé, chenille, and a vegan “saddle” leather, and you can order samples to help you decide which is your favorite. Every cushion is made of vegan, allergen-friendly materials with machine-washable covers that have zippers for easy removal. The assembly is shockingly easy and requires no tools, and took no more than 30 minutes even with just one person — plus, delivery to my doorstep was complimentary, compact, and easy. 

The storage ottoman serves as extra seating or a footrest, and is also available in pillow or box cushions with hidden space for blankets, pillows, or other home storage. I fit three thick, fluffy, difficult-to-store blankets inside with plenty of room to spare. It has a loop handle that you can gently pull, which causes the ottoman to rise open and stay open hands-free until you close it.

Each corner cushion is 41 inches wide, 41 inches deep, and 27 inches tall including the arms; armless cushions are 36 inches wide, 41 inches deep, and 27 inches tall. Both ottomans are 36 inches wide and deep, and 18 inches tall, which is the height of the couch seats.

I opted for the Bella Two-Seater Pillow Couch and Storage Ottoman Set in a stunning mocha brown performance linen material, and it’s easily my favorite couch I’ve ever had. While I do consider myself relatively handy, it was super easy to build all by myself in just a few clicks with easy-to-follow instructions, and it wasn’t too heavy, so I could lift each of the individual parts with ease. The couch is comfy and plush, and the cushions provide just the right amount of depth so they’re not impossible to get out of.

I’ve mostly used the couch for lounging and watching TV, but I’ve also logged hours of reading, working on my laptop, crafting, napping, brushing my cat (who loves the couch just as much as, if not more than, me!), and even eating dinner on it. Although it isn’t technically a sleeper sofa, it’s just under 7 feet long and extremely cushy, so it’s perfect for hosting overnight guests. It easily fits a sheet over it and the included pillows are comfortable enough to use for sleeping. I’m slightly taller than average at 5-foot-7-inches, and can fully extend comfortably both with and without the ottoman. Although it’s a two-seater with two cushions, I can easily fit three to four friends on it.

It’s deeper than the average small-space couch as well as my last two couches, so it took some getting used to, but considering how much time I spend on it, it’s absolutely worth the extra protrusion in my compact living room. The bottom cushions aren’t attached but somehow don’t slide around, and I’ve never needed to fluff them. The arm and back pillows, however, become slightly indented after extended use, but it’s nothing some occasional, light fluffing doesn’t fix.

• Modular design: There are endless ways you can arrange the couch seats and ottomans depending on the pieces you get, from an L to an 8-piece Tetris block. There’s a huge variety of colors and machine-washable fabrics to choose from, which makes the set customizable for any home style.
• Spacious storage: The storage ottoman is super-roomy and has a smart stay-open design that only opens and closes when you apply light pressure. Aside from the hanging loop, the fact that there’s any storage space at all is completely hidden.

• Large size: Always measure your space before you order a new piece of furniture! I love how deep the couch is, but depending on which pieces you choose, it can take up a significant amount of space. Additionally, there’s very little storage space underneath the couch itself, so don’t count on storing much there.
• Material: Linen tends to get softer with age and use, but at first, the performance linen is just the slightest bit itchy. I run hot so I wanted a cooler material, which has proven effective, but definitely consider what fabric will work best in your space. 

The Bellamia Bella Couch and Storage Ottoman are perfect for you if you’re looking for luxurious lounging, customizability, and hidden storage. They’re best for larger spaces (although I made them work in my tiny apartment!), and the colors and materials range from classics to more modern looks. It’s great for those who want to change or rearrange the couch layout easily.
