This New Program Gets You Into Berlin’s Hottest Clubs for Free

Forget about paying cover to get into clubs. What about getting paid to go to clubs? In Berlin, Germany, that’s just become a reality.

In an effort to encourage young people to participate in local culture and counteract the financial devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Berlin Senate for Culture has launched a Jungenkulturkarte (youth culture card) for Berliners between the ages of 18 and 23, allowing cardholders to get into some of the alternative nightlife capital city’s most prestigious venues for free. The card offers entry to nine popular nightlife spots, including Gretchen, a nightclub located in former Prussian military stables, and SchwuZ, Berlin’s largest queer club.

Last December, the initiative was announced by Klaus Lederer, Senator for Culture and Europe.

“Participation in art and culture for all Berliners is very important to me,” Lederer said in a press release. “The youth culture card for 18 to 23-year-olds is aimed at a young audience who are just getting to know Berlin’s diverse cultural landscape after the restrictions of recent years.”

But the card, preloaded with €50 (roughly $54), can also be used for more than just clubbing. You can also use the card to gain free entry to museums, theaters, cinemas, and the opera until April 30.

A bonus? The Jungenkulturkarte is also open to non-German residents, including people who are working and studying abroad. You’re good to go as long as you have an official primary or secondary residence in Berlin.

In order to qualify for the card, you can register here. Once you’ve provided proof of a Berlin address, you can pick up your Jungenkulturkarte at one of several participating libraries around the city by February 28. Happy clubbing!
