“We needed a bigger space after we got married and I wanted a project to renovate,” begins food influencer Beryl Shereshewsky, who runs a popular YouTube channel. Shereshewsky loves cooking and inviting guests for dinner, and says she really wanted to find a home with room to host.

“…I was adamant on finding an apartment with a lot of old NYC character and, most importantly, a separate dining room and closed-off kitchen. I love doorways and rooms so I wanted an old building,” Shereshewsky explains. She and her husband, Rajat Mehrotra, looked for a home that had those characteristics for awhile, eventually finding this 1150-square-foot Murray Hill apartment three years ago.

“When I walked in, I knew it was the one. It felt like home immediately…” she writes. While the love for this space was instantaneous — and there was a big, distinct dining room — the apartment was going to need some work. Known as a “classic five,” along with a dining room, the prewar apartment also includes two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen.

“We had to gut the space, rewire all the electric, redo the pipes, the kitchen, and both bathrooms were emptied out and all the walls were opened,” describes Shereshewsky, who chronicled some of the reno on her Instagram account, @murrayhillhome.

Shereshewsky, who worked in film for around 13 years, started her YouTube channel in 2020 when she was “laid off from my job and feeling lonely and cooking a lot and it resonated with people and it’s now my full time job!” You can follow her on Instagram, TikTok, and her website.
