Maybe it’s just the writer nerd in me, but my absolute favorite part of a new year is picking out a new pen-to-paper planner — and let me tell you, folks, that’s a shopping decision not to be taken lightly. I mean, you’re spending an entire 365 days (or 517, if it’s 17 months) with the exact same little notebook, inscribing your utmost important reminders… and maybe even innermost thoughts, as well. That’s a capital “C” commitment if I ever heard one. And, TBH, it takes some digging to find the best 2023 planner for you specifically, because everyone has different preferences based on size, design, organization level, etc.

Just a few weeks shy of January 1, now’s officially the time to start thinking about your 2023-2024 planner of choice, if you’re in the market for a new style. And to help narrow your search, I rounded up a few of my favorites below in a range of different layouts and page counts, all starting at $16.49. Just need a no-frills calendar to keep tabs on appointments? Check. Looking for something more extensive that doubles as a notebook or journal? You got it. Either way, these eight planners from brands like Etsy, Amazon, Rifle Paper Co., and more are equally desktop-display-worthy and durable enough to see you into 2024. Order now to get them in time for the new year, or even as holiday gifts (just saying)!

Papier
$32.00

Papier has the best 2023 planner illustrations in the game, hands down, as seen in this summer-inspired blue and white "Idyll" style. Customize the cover text, too, free of charge, with your name or initials. This 12-month hardback also has an extensive 96 pages of yearly and monthly calendars, extra room for notes and important contacts, and week views for every Monday through Sunday (just know that these are unlined). Bonus: a built-in green ribbon bookmarks your place on demand.

Amazon
$16.49

If you’re someone who likes to take a lot of notes or make lists within a planner or agenda, this less-than-$17 Amazon hardcover organizer is for you. Clocking in at 8 x 10 in., it’s more sizable than most and includes spacious monthly and weekly pages. Both have plenty of lined writing room, especially the latter with boxes for checking off your to-do tasks. A built-in pen loop and elastic closure are the perfect finishing touches to this luxe-looking (and totally giftable) style.

Rifle Paper Co.
$30.00

Rifle Paper Co.’s annual planner collections remain fan favorites, and with good reason: they’re made to last, well laid out, and, of course, beautifully decorated. Tapping into the brand’s signature whimsical aesthetic, their 2023 offerings include both 12- and 17-month spiral or hardbound notebooks in a medley of fantastic floral prints. Garden party, but make it a planner.

Etsy
$40.79
was $47.98

Get excited to document your appointments, tasks, ideas, and just about everything else within this pretty-in-pink Etsy planner, featuring more than 220 pages(!). That’s right, the sleek leather agenda, available in two sizes and five additional colors, has 114 pages dedicated to 57 weeks of organizing, as well as 66 pages (both lined and gridded) for notes specifically. There’s even a few spreads of world maps — geography lesson, anyone?

Appointed
$26.00

For my very own 2023 planner, I’m turning to D.C.-based stationery brand Appointed, known for their modern, high-quality notebook designs. There’s no shortage of equally well-made planners, each with personalization options, but I highly recommend this super-thin bookcloth style if you’re looking for something simple and straightforward — yet still organized and sophisticated-looking — solely for jotting down dates and reminders via minimalist monthly views.

Ban.do
$19.95

Proof that planners can (and should!) be a little fun, Ban.do’s 12-month, not-your-average-yearly-calendar includes stickers, coloring pages, monthly artwork, and color-coded tabs — on top of weekly and monthly overviews, of course. I also love this super-graphic exterior, which comes in an additional blue design that reads “Look for joy” on the cover.

Etsy
$24.80

What’s cool about this 192-page Etsy “Moment” booklet — which comes in seven colors — is that it can sit upright on top of a desk or table, while taking up minimal space. And if you’re the type to always carry a physical planner on the go, consider this the perfect size to tuck in a tote or purse. That said, still count on ample yearly, monthly, and weekly spreads, plus 46 note-taking pages.

Amazon
$24.11
was $35.00

Is there anything more motivating than cute doggy drawings peeking up at you every day? I think not. On top of the pet-friendly graphics, this spiral-bound 12-month planner checks all the boxes (and more), with organized monthly dividers, calendar overviews, weekly agendas, and inspirational quotes dispersed throughout. There’s even a collection of page-marking and reminder stickers, like “Don’t forget” and “Take note!” Act fast while it’s currently on sale, too!
