These Are the Best Cities for Multi-Generational Vacations, According to One Study
With travel restrictions finally easing, family vacations are on the rise. According to online travel platform Zicasso, group bookings of six or more family members have grown by over 50% since 2019. But as anyone who’s planned a big, multi-generational trip knows, planning a vacation that satisfies family members of all ages can be challenging.
To help make the process easier, vacation rental service Holidu analyzed cities around the world based on a range of factors that appeal to each age group in order to determine which travel destinations are best for a multi-generational trip.
Coming in first place is Madrid, Spain. The country’s capital scored 4 out of 5 on the family-friendliness factor, making it an accessible option for relatives of all ages. Foodies will also find plenty to love — it’s home to 125 Michelin Guide restaurants, which are awarded to the best in international dining. And with over 800 five-star rate attractions and 150 museums, its cultural amenities transcend generations.
Taking second place is Tokyo, Japan. The city offers no shortage of different landscapes — from bustling urban streets to dense forests to sandy beaches, your family can easily tailor Tokyo to each member’s tastes. Adrenaline junkies can also check out nearby Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest peak. It also boasts an impressive 429 Michelin Guide restaurants, as well as a 6.1 out of 7 driving rating.
New York, New York placed third. The Big Apple is home to the most Michelin Guide restaurants in the world (512), and in case any millennials or zoomers in your family were wondering, it also happens to be highly Instagrammable. NYC placed fifth in the study’s overall Instagram hashtag count, with over 122 million people using the #NewYork hashtag in their photos.
