Overview of studio apartment with small blue velvet sofa and canopy bed.

As the person who writes each shopping guide in Apartment Therapy’s Personal Shopper series, I know that sorting through all of the products in a post can be a lot. So I do my best to break out specific furniture categories to make it easier for you to find your dream leather couch or lounge-worthy armchair. One category I haven’t hit yet is loveseats. Although I’ve only tested a handful of them during my store visits, the ones I’ve seen still span a wide range of price points and aesthetics, so you’re sure to find at least one model you love.

In any case, a loveseat is a great alternative to a full-sized sofa if you live in a small apartment. Or you can always just grab one to increase your living room seating space without making the room feel cramped. Keep reading to see my recs from top retailers like Ashley, Joybird, and Wayfair. Each one is a solid option!

Maimz Loveseat
$850$750

Faux-leather is not always convincing, but Ashley’s Maimz loveseat looks like the real deal. When I viewed this loveseat in the store, I found it to be compact but still roomy enough to serve as an apartment sofa. At 66 inches long, it can comfortably seat two people, and its tall arms will make you feel cozy as you sit back. Still, the loveseat’s tall, mid-century-style legs help create an airy appearance.

Hughes Twin Sleeper Sofa
$2,352$1,646

Technically this Joybird pick is not a loveseat, but when I saw it on the showroom floor, it looked like the size of one. The Hughes has a hexagonal shape, which, coupled with the in-store model’s yellow upholstery, reminded me of a honeycomb. It’s totally retro-chic, and it can double as a bed for an overnight guest.

Hendrix Velvet Loveseat
$799$258

Scallops are the design trend right now, and this under-$300 loveseat is an adorable way to get in on the style. The glam seating pick boasts gold metal legs and velvet upholstery that bring the drama while still remaining functional and fresh. When contributor Alicia tested the loveseat in Wayfair’s brick-and-mortar store, she wrote that it could also serve as a refreshing pop of color for the living room.

Francesca Leather Power Reclining Loveseat
$1,170

If I’m being honest, most reclining sofas are not what I would call “stylish.” But Ashley’s Francesca loveseat looks pretty streamlined, thanks to its clean-lined silhouette and smooth auburn faux-leather upholstery. Plus, the comfort it offers is unmatched. You can recline into a variety of positions, and you get optimal lumbar support and USB charging ports on each arm. So convenient!

Chelsea Loveseat
$2,522$1,765

Another glam seating pick, Joybird’s Chelsea loveseat features lovely channel tufting along its back, as well as vintage-looking brass-capped legs. It has a firm seat that makes it good for working from home in addition to relaxing, and the seat is also loose for easy vacuuming. Like all of Joybird’s seating products, the Chelsea is available in dozens of upholstery options, including performance fabrics.

Rockland Microfiber 3-Piece Power Console Loveseat
$1,500$1,350

I absolutely loved the flip-top console on this power-reclining loveseat when I tested it in Raymour & Flanigan’s store. Not only does it have built-in cup holders, but the console also opens to reveal a spacious storage spot for TV remotes, snacks, and more. Additionally, this pick is upholstered in a supersoft microfiber fabric that resembles distressed leather. It would be easy to wipe clean, too.
