Bobby Berk’s First Home Decor Book Launched Today, and Here’s a Sneak Peek
Bobby Berk’s had a heck of a summer. The author, design expert, and Emmy-nominated TV host kicked things off with the seventh installment of Queer Eye on Netflix back in May. And now, to bookend the season, he’s releasing his first book, Right at Home: How Good Design is Good for the Mind.
The nearly 300-page-long tome is chock-full of beautiful interiors paired with decorating advice for the modern home, and Berk infuses it all with his characteristic wit, cheeriness, and unpretentious, practical approach. The thesis of the book? Your home is your haven, so set it up and decorate it in a way that best supports your wellness — physically and emotionally.
To that end, Berk’s favorite decorating tip from the book might not come as a huge surprise, but it’s advice to take to heart. “Everyone talks about the new trends and following trends, but my tip is: Don’t follow trends — follow what you love!” says Berk. “What makes you happy and brings joy to your home may or may not coincide with the latest design trends and, to be honest, that doesn’t really matter at the end of the day … when you stick to your true personal style and the items that you connect with, your home will be timeless.”
All that aside, Berk acknowledges the fun of changing up your decor as budget and resources allow. That’s where the book comes in handy, too. It’s organized into chapters that address different aspects of design, from function and organization to color, lighting, other sensory elements, and more. Each section concludes with a handy cheat sheet for customizing a room of the house (think: living room, bedroom, kitchen, and beyond). To kick things off, the first chapter unpacks how to figure out what makes you tick when it comes to interiors and how to take those details and run with them, from concept and moodboard to a completed space. The last pages are an index of sorts, where Berk lists his favorite stores and places to shop.
Reading through the book feels like you’re having a design consultation with Berk himself. And the best part? You’ll feel empowered to start making decorating moves once you begin working your way through the pages.
