The Most Maximalist Bohemian Home Just Might Be on This Farm in Colorado
Name: Chasity Kelly, her husband Derek, their three dogs Nixxon (beagle/pointer), Bitness Everdeen (chiweenie) and Aspen (Australian shepherd). They also have 20 chickens and two ducks.
Location: Hesperus, Colorado
Size: 1,800 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, owned
When Chasity, a barber, and her husband Derek, a freelance photographer, became restless with the Nashville lifestyle, they decided to sell their house and move to southwestern Colorado, settling into a life of working from home on a farm. “Everyone thought we were crazy when we told them we were buying a 40-acre farm… Neither of us had ever lived on a farm, but I was raised in the county and the city life just wasn’t our thing anymore. Fast forward to now… we’ve been in Colorado for a year and we couldn’t be happier.”
“I remember the moment we saw our home, I started crying because I just couldn’t believe I get to call this place home! The view from our front porch is like no mountains I had ever seen! It was a blank space, with new textures, tones, and style. I couldn’t wait to get my hands dirty in decorating! It’s our happy place. Our place of rest and comfort.”
“It was a pretty big lifestyle change, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything; I’ve got it all right here!! The farm life called and we came!”
“We just moved my mom out from Tennessee, as well. She is living in an RV on our property, helping us a lot out here! It’s so awesome having her here! There’s so much to be said about trading in the corporate/city world for a slower pace of life. The quality of life has gotten so much better for us all!”
What is your favorite room and why? Oooh, that’s a toughy, but I’ll go with the main living area. I love gatherings, family time, and hosting. This area has multiple seating areas and it’s right off of our kitchen. Super easy for entertaining and hanging! This space also holds some of my dearest treasures collected! And the view is UNBELIEVABLE.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I would make our ceilings taller. Our home in Nashville had 24-foot ceilings, these are more like 12 maybe. Our goal is to add onto the front of the house and make an A-frame.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I snagged the coolest batik piece from our local humane society thrift store. I frequent there lots. It’s massive!
Any advice for creating a home you love? The best advice I can give is to be patient. The pieces will show up; what’s meant to be will find it’s way to your home. Don’t rush a space and always remember you can change it.
Thanks, Chasity Kelly!
