I’ll admit it: I love being able to say, “I told you so.” One of the most recent instances of this occurred a few months after moving into my current apartment. At the beginning of the lease, I suggested to my roommate that we buy a full-sized clothes drying rack. She was adamant that we wouldn’t need one, but I insisted. She soon realized and told me that I had been right — but considering that we often find ourselves having to use it at the same time, this small win wasn’t all that satisfying.

Even when it’s just me who needs to hang laundry, our trusty rack occasionally runs out of rungs for all of my clean clothes. As a result, I’d find myself hanging my leftover shirts or sports bras on doorknobs in my bedroom. But then I found a convenient and effective solution, and I’m excited to tell you that it’s totally renter-friendly. The Brabantia suction clothes hook has become the MVP of my laundry days, and it’s available for under $30 on Wayfair.

What Is the Brabantia Clothes Hook with Suction Cup?

This clever product is essentially a purse-sized clothes hook that sticks onto non-porous surfaces, like tiles and windows. It measures almost 9 inches long when extended and 4 inches wide, and it adheres to your desired surface via a suction cup located at its base. Once the base is sturdily attached, simply pull down the hook part to create three additional hanging slots. The hook holds up to 4.4 pounds, so it’s best used for holding lightweight wire hangers and garments, like shirts, dresses, and intimates. What’s more, this product is available in black and white, so it’ll blend in with your walls and trimmings when not in use.

Why I Love the Brabantia Clothes Hook with Suction Cup

Using the clothes hook was easy from the get-go. When it arrived, it had a sticker over the suction cup. I peeled that off and stuck the base onto my bedroom window without issue. After holding the hook in place for about a minute, I let go and was satisfied to find that it appeared sturdy and secure. I made sure to attach it so that the hook flips up when not extended. When I want to use it, I just pull it down to slip my hangers through the three holes.

Obviously, this hook doesn’t serve as my primary clothes drying rack, but it nonetheless comes in handy pretty much every time I do laundry. I usually have a garment or two I can’t fit onto my main rack, or even if all of my clothes fit, they’re frequently crowded. Thanks to the Brabantia clothes hook, I no longer have to use doorknobs to dry the extra items or squeeze my clothes onto one drying surface. Instead, I hang lightweight items like button-downs and tank tops onto the hook, and they’re dry within a couple of hours. I sometimes use the hook even on non-laundry days to hang my robe. This way, the robe is much easier to grab and throw on than having to rummage inside my closet for it. When I’m not using the hook, I push it upwards to make it flat, pull down my window shade, and it’s like it’s not even there!

I obviously haven’t removed my hook from the window, but it appears to have a tab at the bottom of the base that you pull for a Command-like removal. For now, though, I plan on keeping the hook exactly where it is. If you also deal with limited clothes-drying space, I can’t recommend this ingenious product enough.
