The Queen Is Hiring Someone to Redecorate Buckingham Palace

You might have what it takes to redecorate a space to be fit for a king, but do you have what it takes to redecorate for a queen? Buckingham Palace has announced that it is looking for a decorator and painter who would officially become part of the Royal Household. 

The job opening is part of the Palace’s 10-year £369 million renovation project, and would entail the chosen applicant to do a variety of tasks, including: add decorative finishes to a number of buildings across the London Estates, carry out inspections, make sure that rooms are renewed and fit for purpose, and assist in preparing for state, ceremonial, and official functions.

“In all that you do, you’ll aim for the highest standards,” the posting reads. “After all, the results of your hard work will be seen by thousands.”

As for requirements, you have to be passionate about historical buildings, must be good with deadlines, blessed with an eye for details, have organizational- and communication- skills, and must be a natural team player with a flexible work attitude.

The posting adds: “… It’s the pride in joining a team at the heart of a world-famous institution. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional.”

For compensation, you’ll get paid between £28,000 – £30,000 (about $37,000 – $39,000) depending on experience, for 40 hours of work a week, plus a 15 percent employer contribution pension scheme, 33 days annual leave, and access to training and development.

Unfortunately, the biggest perk — randomly bumping into Queen Elizabeth and chatting over tea — might not be available at this time. Earlier this month, it was announced that she’s set to move to Windsor Castle for good, only planning to visit Buckingham Palace on occasions. But hey, you never know.
